Dental crowns are artificial tooth caps that are placed over a tooth to protect it or enhance its strength. Typically, dental crowns are made of porcelain material and perfectly resemble your natural teeth. It is one of the most common types of dental restoration.

At first, the dentist will take an impression of the shape of your natural tooth and record its natural color. This is the shape and color that your dental crown will be of. The impression would also help in determining your bite and jaw movements and considering all these factors, your crown will be perfected in the laboratory.

Why You Need A Dental Crown

You may need a dental crown for the following reasons:

 1. To cover a large dental filling. 2. To protect a fragile tooth. 3. To restore a worn down or broken tooth. 4. To cover a discolored tooth. 5. To cover an out-of-shape tooth. 6. To support a dental bridge. 7. To restore a chipped or fractured tooth. 8. To protect a decayed tooth from further infection. 9. To protect a tooth that is at high risk of decay.

Apart from that, you may need a dental crown for any cosmetic modification. For example, you may not like the shape of one of your teeth and would like to rather replace it with a perfect-looking dental crown.
